Conversion direction and optional features.
Connector fit, payload fit, signal conversion, and end-to-end feature support are four separate checks.

Feature chain evidence

| HDR | Target timing/color format, HDR format, EDID path, and OS/app output. A display’s HDR badge is not the adapter’s claim. |
| VRR / Adaptive Sync | Source protocol, converter pass-through, display range, port/input support, and OS/GPU policy. |
| HDCP | Required protection version and every terminating/repeating component. A desktop image can work while protected playback fails. |
| Audio | Source audio route, converter extraction/pass-through, display capability, format/channel limits, and selected OS output. |
| DSC | Source encode, any dock/adapter handling, and sink decode at the required mode. “Supports 8K” does not reveal the whole DSC path. |
HDMI version wording
HDMI features are implementation-specific. A version number alone does not guarantee every optional mode or feature. Check the product’s exact supported resolution, refresh, color depth, FRL/TMDS behavior, HDR, VRR, HDCP, audio, and cable requirements.
