Calculate the DSC ratio the link would require.
Estimate uncompressed payload, compare it with the usable link, and separate “the arithmetic fits” from actual source and display support.

What the ratio can and cannot tell you
The minimum arithmetic ratio is estimated uncompressed payload ÷ usable link payload. VESA describes DSC up to about 3:1 as its common visually lossless compression range, but a ratio below that boundary is not a compatibility promise.
The source and sink must support DSC, while docks and adapters may need to pass, decode, or re-encode the stream. Exact timings, slices, FEC, and exposed modes remain hardware-specific.
