The conventional Alt Mode tradeoff

USB-C has four high-speed lanes. A common dock arrangement gives two to DisplayPort and keeps two for SuperSpeed USB. A video-first four-lane arrangement raises DisplayPort payload but leaves only the separate USB 2.0 path for native USB data.

USB4 and Thunderbolt tunnel traffic differently, so do not apply this conventional lane split directly to those products.
