Charging · requirement builder

Translate a charging target into the path it requires.

Calculate current, identify the 3 A or 5 A cable boundary, and flag when the operating point needs Extended Power Range.

Desired operating point

watts
Do not guess the voltage. Use a documented fixed profile, PPS request, or device requirement. Equal wattage at a different voltage can cross the cable-current boundary.

The important boundaries

Power equals voltage × current. Standard USB-C cable current tops out at 3 A without a 5 A electronically marked cable. USB PD Standard Power Range stays at 20 V or below; higher EPR profiles extend to 28 V, 36 V, and 48 V, with an overall ceiling of 240 W.

A result describes the minimum electrical class only. The device, charger, cable, and intermediate dock still need a mutually supported profile.
