USB-C is the reversible connector. It does not, by itself, promise a charging wattage, USB data generation, USB4, Thunderbolt, or display output. A useful compatibility check starts with the intended job and traces every component required for that job.
The charging chain

Why a larger charger is usually safe but not automatically faster
In a standards-compliant USB PD path, the source advertises profiles and the sink requests a compatible one. A 140 W charger does not force 140 W into a 30 W device. But the presence of a USB-C connector does not prove standards compliance, and proprietary phone charging can require a matching charger and cable.
The cable has separate power and data stories
A cable can be excellent for 240 W charging yet carry only USB 2.0 data. Another can carry high-speed data and video but have a lower power rating. Treat the power marking and performance marking as separate facts. For a display path, confirm that all required high-speed lanes are present; for more than 60 W, confirm the 5 A path.
A repeatable purchase method
- Write the target: for example, “charge this laptop near 100 W while one other device is connected.”
- Find the device's accepted input and protocol.
- Read the charger's exact port-combination table.
- Choose a cable whose power rating covers the port target.
- Verify certified markings or exact model specifications.
- Keep packaging and test the real setup while returns are possible.
